hi Ginger, High Water Update: It's 7:30 a.m. here and I just went downstairs to check outside the front door. The water is 8" deep (boot check) and rising. Tomorrow a.m. at this time we will have to go out with our voluminous and heavy luggage; don't ask me how that is going to happen. The tide will be 1/2 hour later but still, it looks tricky. And not so long ago, right here, I wished for Acqua Alta. . .
We had planned to go out this morning early, in order to get out, but it is drizzling as well, so we are hunkered down now, for 4 hours to wait it out. We are lucky from a scenic standpoint to be directly on a canal, the intersection of 3 to be precise, but this also means the front door and alleyway out to higher ground gets hit hard.
The metal barriers they slide into place at the doorframes DO work, I was surprised to see that, knowing what I do about the invasiveness of water.
OK, that's all for now, we will get out and make our way back home tomorrow, come Hell or High Water. . . a phrase I use once in awhile, but never so accurately as now.
 love,
 -mom
p.s. photo is looking across to the other side; at lower tide these steps are completely free of water.
