Sunday in Firenze

As a tourist-on-her-own here, I have a love/hate relationship with Firenze on Sundays.
On the love side, it's easy to wander everywhere and wonder: where is everyone? Gathering? Sleeping? Vegging out in front of the tv? Watching soccer? They certainly aren't on the streets, in the restaurants, shops, or even caffes; those frequented specifically by Italians are closed. Maybe it's just their chill day, to stay in close to the fire, do the laundry, whatever. Today I took a long walk beyond the 'T' zone, and was able to walk down the middle of the same streets I couldn't cross easily mid-week. It's a little disconcerting, and too quiet. I feel left out. . .
Later in the day, around 3, Italians do emerge, as couples and in family groups, making the lone traveler feel even more lonely.
I think I made the best of it though, walked until my toes hurt, got into some new neighborhoods, took lots of photos and went to the grocery store ('T' zone, open) and bought food to cook for dinner in tonight.
